The short version: your place here is free and stays yours, your story stays yours, and the family's registered arms belong to the Van der Walt-Familiebond. The software and design behind the portal are the work of Tiguri GmbH, which is what keeps it cared for.

Your place, and your story

Taking your place on the tree costs nothing, and always will. What you write and share stays yours, your name, your line, your story and any photographs you add. By sharing them you let us store and show them as set out in the privacy notice, and you can withdraw that and have your details removed at any time. We will never sell them.

The family's arms

The registered shield is not Tiguri's, and is treated with care. It is the property of the Van der Walt-Familiebond, registered with the South African Bureau of Heraldry on 28 April 1978, and it appears here with the Bond's authority. Tiguri claims no rights in the registered arms and does not licence them. The wreath, the motto and any personalised mark are personal embellishment, as the arms page explains.

The money is the Bond's

Every rand raised through the portal is received and governed by the Van der Walt-Familiebond, never by any individual. Tiguri provides the platform; the Bond holds the family's trust, its records and its funds.

The software behind it

The portal's software and source code, its placement and matching engine, its design, structure and original writing (including Of the Forest) are the work of Tiguri GmbH, a company in Zurich (CH-8008), Switzerland. Copyright © 2026 Tiguri GmbH, all rights reserved. Keeping the platform Tiguri's own is what lets it be looked after properly rather than left to fade; it may not be copied, adapted or rebuilt without Tiguri's permission. Should another family one day wish for a home like this, that is a conversation for its own time, and no part of what is given here.

Name and marks

"Van der Walt 300", the vdw300.com wordmark and the portal's branding are marks of the project and of Tiguri GmbH. The Tiguri name and logo are marks of Tiguri GmbH. Please do not use them in a way that suggests endorsement or affiliation without permission.
